The Haunted: Hells Reach
The Haunted:Hells Reach (THHR) is a fast paced third person action horror survival game (Unreal Engine) that focuses on delivering an intense multiplayer experience. Your goal is to liberate cursed places and survive the assault from the minions of Hell. The game features several multiplayer modes such as co-op survival, demons vs. humans and demonizer.
Initially the game was created by Michael Hegemann as a UT3 mod for Epic's "Make Something Unreal Contest" in early 2010, where it won first place. In 2011 THHR was taken over by publisher Signo y Arte S.L. (KTX, SYA's department of development), who negotiated with THQ, the second largest video game distribution company in the world at that time. The PC-Version of the game then was very successfully released by Valusoft, the THQ subsidiary for the PC sector, on October 25, 2011 under effect of the Publishing and Distribution License between Signo y Arte S.L. (SYA) and THQ.
As is well known, THQ went under - due to blatant wrong decisions by the company management (the UDraw disaster). As one of the first nervous actions of the crisis, THQ sold Valusoft without prior notice to all licensors on April 25, 2012 to a group of investors that had previously bought the development company Cosmi. As a result, all the rights given from SYA to THQ were splitted and no longer in one hand. Only much later in 2014 did SYA manage to get back all the rights of the game. The damage at SYA from the THQ-bankruptcy is in the six-figure, considering the losses from the non-publication of the almost finished console version, in the million range. A retransfer of rights with sharing of damage costs was rejected, the game creator decided to step out completely and leave all rights to the game where they are since 2011. Then in 2017, SYA's attempt to restore the game's original success through downloadable contents and its in the year 2012 planned sequel "The Haunted: Back to Hell" failed, resulting that all future cooperation with former developers involved in the failure were ruled out.
With a view to the tenth anniversary of the game in 2021, SYA decided to try a revival, but this time only with reliable development in their own language area. For the tenth anniversary in October 2021, the first DLC "The Island" was announced and released shortly afterwards. The second DLC "The Fog" followed only three month later as well as game patches, and a very extensive update including the split screen desired by the fan community. The revival of the game ten years after (TYA) the first release was received very positively by the fan community.
On October 25, 2022, SYA announced the begin of a new project with the work title "TYA Remaster" (see teaser) on Steam, along with free new weapons. Over Christmas until March 2023, the game received the long-awaited "Trading Cards", more patches and the finalization of the free SANTA TOWN level with its "MAZE Search & Rescue" action. This map gives a first taste of the missions players want in the new game.
The release of the new game is planned for Christmas 2023. "The Haunted: Hells Reach" in the current version of March with the free SANTA TOWN MAZE mission, DLCs and all its updates remains as the THHR@2023 version.
